Fieldtone's Weaver — Handheld Randomising Loop Sampler, One Knob, No Undo and Plenty of Surprises
Two seconds of captured sound and a single knob — that's all you get from Fieldtone's Weaver handheld device, and it's more than enough. Weaver grabs audio via its built-in mic or line input, then slices, shuffles, and spatialises it into rhythmic loops or shifting textures, depending on which mode you choose. Every twist of the knob re-randomises the parameters: new loop, new pattern, and no way back. There's something extremely freeing about a gadget that refuses to let you undo — it keeps you moving forward, listening rather than editing. The stereo output also comes with plenty of spatial movement, CV clock sync for locking its Rhythm mode to a modular rig, and runs on a 9V battery for fieldwork. Compact, immediate, and pretty darn inspiring!
Features:
- Single-knob interface — each turn randomises all loop parameters
- Fixed 2-second sample capture time
- Two output modes: Rhythm (beat-oriented loops) and Texture (evolving, ambient output)
- Built-in microphone for environmental / field sampling
- 3.5 mm line input for sampling external sources
- 3.5 mm stereo output — drives headphones directly or feeds line-level inputs
- CV clock sync input in Rhythm mode — accepts +5 V sync via 3.5 mm jack (standard modular patch cable)
- 9V centre-negative DC power (standard Boss-style, not included) or 9V battery
- Battery life: ~2.5 hours (alkaline), ~3–4 hours (rechargeable lithium-ion)
- No undo / no recall — each knob movement is a one-way transformation
