Morphor Echon 6 — Six-Voice Polyphonic BBD Resonator Synthesizer
The Echon 6 is a six-voice analog instrument where BBD resonators form the tonal core of each voice, tracking pitch from your keyboard to produce sounds with an unmistakably warm, organic quality — warm pads, breathy flutes, percussive tones, plucky strings, and textures that sit somewhere between familiar and otherworldly. Bucket-brigade devices have long been the secret sauce behind warm analog delays and lush chorus effects. Morphor decided to take these chips and build an entire polyphonic synthesizer around them.
The main star of this instrument is, of course, the exciter section. It feeds each resonator with a blend of analog VCO waveforms (sine, triangle, ramp, square), external audio, and a sample-and-hold noise circuit. A loopable ADSR envelope with adjustable onset delay shapes everything from sharp, percussive transients to slow, harmonic swells. The resonators themselves consist of pitched delay-feedback networks with 1024-stage BBDs and low-pass filters in both input and feedback paths. Fine feedback control, polarity selection, panning, and wet/dry mix give each voice its own acoustic character within the stereo field.
There's also a 9 x 32 modulation matrix which connects sources like the envelope, quad LFO and random generators, velocity, polyphonic aftertouch, key tracking or the modwheel to virtually any destination. Assigning modulation is super simple — hold a source button and adjust the target parameter. Dedicated buttons let you mute, invert, or max out modulation depth instantly. All six voices can play together polyphonically, be grouped into custom configurations, or split across independent stereo outputs for multitimbral setups.
Echon 6 delivers a display-free, immersive experience that maximizes tactile control while eliminating performance-time menu diving and distracting double-function commands. Its aluminum enclosure fits tabletop setups, 19" racks, or VESA mounts, and runs on USB-C power. Echon 6 is a different take on analog polyphony; it's a curious and beautiful instrument — the demos will help you understand why.
