EVIL PET by Endorphin.es — Granular Pet and Tape Machine Capable of Sampling Straight From the Aether. A Tiny Box in Bright Colors With High Fun Factor!
EVIL PET is Endorphines’ lovable little chaos engine: a granular processor with an FM radio inside, a sampler/looper that behaves like a reel-to-reel, and a surprisingly expressive polysynth when you feed it MIDI or MPE. In plain terms: it records or loads sound, bites it into tiny grains, then lets you reverse, spray, stretch, and re-pitch those grains until guitars turn into vapour, drums melt into pads, and radio chatter becomes cinema.
Audio comes from four sources: stereo line inputs, a built-in microphone, samples from the included microSD card, or radio broadcasts picked up by the supplied foldable antenna. Hit the record button to capture any of these into a buffer holding up to ten minutes, then start mangling. The main sample controls are: Position, Size, Pitch, and Grain Rate which do the heavy lifting, with secondary functions (spread, cloud, detune, shape) that widen the stereo field, thicken clusters, or sharpen transients — immediate, hands-on, straight to the fun and always close to happy accidents!
So as already mentioned, it can be used in three main ways. As a synth, it’s up to 8-voice polyphonic from MIDI/MPE, tracking cleanly while your hands (or pads) shape grain clouds, filter sweeps, and reverb tails. As an effect, park it on an aux or after your instrument, set the buffer to taste, and blend dry/wet for anything from gentle shimmer to hard-edged glitch. As a tape machine it can push its buffer length into minutes, overdub, and let feedback fold your audio into a nice grain stream — beautiful build-ups, smears, and ghostly self-oscillation. And finally, the headliner oddity — there’s a stereo FM tuner onboard: plug the little antenna (or even your expression pedal) into the EXP jack, tune a station, and resample anything you manage to snatch from airwaves. That feature alone means you always have an infinite random sample pool at the ready — how amazing is that!? Add three LFOs (or an envelope follower) for motion, a tasteful multi-mode filter, lush plate/reverse/room reverbs with shimmer, and a “saturator” block that swaps between distortion, downsampling, bit-crush, flanger, chorus, or downright feedback. That's plenty of features for such a humble looking device!
Quality-of-life is thoroughly sorted: line-level stereo I/O, built-in mic for quick grabs, microSD for presets and WAVs, proper 24-bit/48 kHz conversion with 32-bit internal headroom, a bright OLED that shows your buffer and flying grains, and a relay-based true-stereo bypass when you want out. Power is delightfully un-picky (9–18 V DC, either polarity), and the expression input can morph multiple parameters between two “scenes” — or do antenna duty for the radio, because of course it can. Is it a good pet? Absolutely. Evil? Only when you ask. This device is simply fun. Don't believe us? Try it!
Features:
- Granular workstation pedal with three core personalities: polysynth (via MIDI/MPE), live effect, and long-buffer “reel-to-reel” looper
- Built-in stereo FM radio (76–108 MHz) as a record source; included foldable antenna plugs into the EXP jack
- Primary hands-on controls: Position, Size (fwd/rev), Pitch (±1–3 oct selectable), Grains (rate/random); secondary: Spread, Cloud, Detune, Shape
- Effects chain: multi-mode Filter (LP/HP/BP/Comb), Reverb (Plate S/L, Reverse, Room) with shimmer/tone/predelay, and Saturator block (Distortion, Sample-Rate Reduce, Bit-Crush, Flanger, Chorus, Feedback)
- Three LFOs per preset with multiple shapes, MIDI-clock sync/divisions, plus Envelope Follower for dynamics-driven modulation
- Expression pedal morphing between two full parameter states (also responds to MIDI CC1); EXP jack doubles as radio antenna
- Up to 8-voice polyphony over MIDI; MPE mapping for pitch/timbre/pressure; MIDI THRU and CC send/receive
- microSD storage for presets and WAVs; load 44.1/48/96 kHz WAVs (mono sum), save 24-bit/48 kHz buffers
- Buffer length up to 10 minutes, overdub amount set per preset
- 24-bit A/D/A at 48 kHz, 32-bit internal processing; stereo line-level I/O, headphone out
- True-stereo relay bypass, buffered, or trails mode
- 128×64 OLED with screensaver; compact metal enclosure (approx. 186 × 123 × 75 mm)
- Power-agnostic: 9–18 V DC, ~500 mA, accepts center-neg or center-pos adapters (12 V PSU included)
