Aircraft Designs Horizon — Discrete Equalizer Based on the Pultec EQP-1R
Horizon brings that elusive "Pultec magic" into your Eurorack setup without the hum, noise, or maintenance headaches of vintage units. This fully discrete program equalizer (older term for mix-bus EQ) captures the silky highs and thick lows that defined that era, but here reimagined with some modern enhancements and better reliability.
Built around a custom gyrator circuit, Horizon delivers the musical character of classic Pultec EQs while staying noise-free. The fully discrete analog path gives you that characteristic and often sought after warmth and musicality that these EQs are known for — only here it's packaged as a sandwich box-sized eurorack module.
The separate high and low frequency controls work just like the originals — the module lets you simultaneously cut and boost in the same frequency range for that characteristic "Pultec curve" that makes everything sit better in the mix. It's one of those tools that just makes things sound right, either great for polishing a final master or adding some vintage flair to individual tracks. If a mini Pultec sounds appealing, well — it's finally here :)
Features:
- Custom gyrator circuitry for noise-free high-frequency enhancement
- 100% discrete analog signal path with musical harmonic characteristics
- Stereo/mono operation with left input normaled to right
- Separate high-frequency shelf: 0 to -16 dB attenuation, 0 to +15 dB boost
- Separate low-frequency shelf: 0 to -17.5 dB attenuation, 0 to +13.5 dB boost
- Variable Q control for high-frequency bandwidth shaping (10-15 dB range)
- Make-up gain stage with gentle harmonic saturation capability
- Output level metering for gain staging
- True bypass switching for A/B comparison
- Compatible with both modular and line-level signals
