Every Division and Duration (Every Div) is a unique polytemporal instrument: six clock outputs, each at its own tempo, all harmonically related. It lets you play with tempo the way a keyboard lets you play with pitch.
Polytemporality is a territory electronic music has barely touched. Combine tempos to access an entirely new class of polyrhythms. Chain tempos to create tuplet phrases. Run different sequencers at different BPMs. Every Div makes polytemporality playable.
Each output clock is defined by a ratio of division to duration: a number of steps across a span of time. Divisions count steps. Durations are measured in 16ths. 16:16 is a straight clock. 17:16 squeezes seventeen steps in a 4/4 bar. 7:12 stretches seven steps across three beats. The OLED display shows clock ratios and tempos. If the main clock is at 128 BPM, a clock at a 17:16 ratio is at 136 BPM and a 7:12 clock is at 74.67 BPM.
Play clocks from a Novation Launchpad or monome grid. The top half of the grid sets divisions, the bottom half sets durations, both from 1 to 32. Division and duration changes can be quantized. Save a snapshot, deconstruct the groove, then hit snapshot recall to land back where you started. A prime grid extends divisions to primes up to 127 and durations to multiples of four up to 128 sixteenths (32 beats), for dense patterns that never coincide until the cycle restarts.
Every Div supports audio rates up to 15 kHz. The OLED display switches to hertz once a clock passes 1000 BPM (16.67 Hz). You can play Every Div as a five-voice just intonation tone generator.
Every Div follows external analog or MIDI clock and drives both analog and MIDI devices. Every Div’s parallel hardware architecture keeps cycle-to-cycle jitter below 0.1 µs.
