SOMA Harvezi Hazze - Distortion, Saturation and Waveshaping, Soma style.
Unearthed from flea markets in Tbilisi, Georgia, comes a distortion pedal built around a peculiar relic - the unijunction transistor. This component from the early days of electronics forms the basis of SOMA's latest experiment in sound transformation.
The Harvezi Hazze (Georgian for "signal jamming" or "a fault on the transmission line") takes a different approach to distortion. Its unijunction waveshaper can morph seamlessly between various states - from limiter to distortion, from generator to utter signal obliteration.
The signal path starts with an optical compressor, moves through a dual-mode distorting amplifier, then into the unijunction waveshaper before reaching the tone stack. Each stage adds its own character of distortion and saturation. The Spoil and Spread controls let you explore the unique properties of the unijunction transistor, with Spoil setting the folding threshold and Spread determining the severity of the effect.
A three-position switch gives you soft clipping, aggressive harmonics, or total feedback mode where all parameters begin influencing each other. In feedback mode, the pedal can generate resonances and self-oscillations, turning it into an instrument in its own right.
The side panel houses an array of switches for further sculpting of your sound - from bass boost to high cut, from tilt EQ to lowpass filtering. A dedicated compressor switch lets you engage or bypass the optical compression stage. This being a SOMA device, be sure there's something odd, quirky, and special inside of this box..!

Soma is Vlad Kreimer's "romantic engineering" endeavour into musical instrument design. While the Lyra-8 organismic synthesizer and the Ether wide-band receiver have already gained a bunch of adherents, the Pulsar-23 has created an unprecedented expectation.
