The metal legend enters Eurorack! Head Banger is a hardcore distortion module by Setonixsynths
Setonixsynths, in collaboration with Robots Are Red, has recreated the circuit of the legendary Boss HM-2, THE most influential distortion pedal of all time. Of course, the circuit has been heavily expanded, delivering an unholy blend of high-fidelity op-amps and sawtooth-massacre distortion.
The module features a distortion section, a 3-band equalizer, the Crush and Doom switches, a feedback path, and a whole bunch of VCAs. The distortion is based on the Boss HM-2 and delivers the authentic chainsaw sound made famous by Swedish death metal (aka the HM-2 sound). The EQ is also inspired by the original pedal but now offers full low, mid, and high bands with up to ±20 dB of boost/cut for detailed tone shaping. The two switches activate either Doom (a bass boost) or Crush (a soft limiter).
There are CV inputs for gain, dry/wet, and feedback. The feedback path can be broken, allowing external sound processors to be inserted. Very cool!
All in all, this is a bone-shaking module that, aside from pure hardcore distortion, can also gently warm and saturate your signal, perfect even for the more mellow metal fans among you.
