WORNG Glowing Orb — Stereo State Variable Filter with SSI2140 Character, SEM-Style Topology and a Gain-Compensated Drive. A Vintage Filter for the Modern Era.
Glowing Orb is a stereo state variable filter for Eurorack, built around a nice meeting of two much-loved vintage ideas. The core is the SSI2140, a modern relative of the SSM2040 — the filter behind the big, beefy sound of the Prophet 5 Rev 2. WORNG have then wired that into a -12dB/oct state variable circuit modelled on the Oberheim SEM. So you get a hint of both: the character of the Prophet's filter and the topology of the SEM, running in full stereo.
The output sweeps through Low Pass, Notch and High Pass, with Band Pass available as its own mode, all on a single stereo output pair. Patch only the left input and Glowing Orb normals the signal to stereo. Much of the character lives in the Drive control. It pushes the input into asymmetrical soft clipping and then harder clipping, while reducing the output level at the same time. So you can lean into the filter without immediately chewing up the rest of your system’s headroom.
Rounding things out are Cutoff and Resonance controls, joined by Frequency CV with attenuverter and a tuned V/Oct input for key tracking, envelopes, modulation or pitched resonant pinging. Finally, there’s the orb itself, glowing in step with the cutoff, so you can read where the filter sits at a glance, even in the dark. A characterful analogue filter for anyone chasing that specific vintage tone, but in proper stereo.
