Tobinski's Harmonic Timing Generator – Timing Generator With a Harmonic Soul.
A clock module that generates harmonics? Or is it a harmonic oscillator that keeps time? Tobinski's Harmonic Timing Generator elegantly blurs these lines, offering its own approach to both rhythm and tone generation in the Eurorack universe.
So what does it do, the short answer is that it combines clock functions and waveform generation. It was designed to work seamlessly with the Tobinski Sequencer and Interpolating Scanner while also offering standalone functionality for rhythmic and tonal exploration.
As a reference clock generator, it produces a base frequency that feeds into analog multipliers ranging from x1 to x8. Three selectors allow manual or voltage-controlled frequency switching, giving you adaptable sequencing options without menu diving. When you need slower rates, simply engage the LFO mode – useful for driving sequencers or as a modulation source.
The HTG has a special relationship with the Tobinski Interpolating Scanner. When connected, the module's sawtooth outputs transform into sine waves – effectively turning your clock generator into a harmonic oscillator. This flexibility lets it function as both a timing coordinator and a sound source.
The falling sawtooth outputs operate at +/-5V. Selectable multiplier combinations (x2, x3, x5, x7) provide mathematically related timing signals that can create complex rhythmic relationships.
The Harmonic Timing Generator's integration with other Tobinski modules creates a cohesive approach where timing and harmonic content work hand in hand. It functions equally well as a standalone timing device or as part of a larger Tobinski system – a clever solution for musicians seeking mathematical relationships in both rhythm and tone.
