Joranalogue Walk 4 — Four Lanes of Controlled Chaos, in highest quality
Walk 4 is Joranalogue’s latest exercise in elegant analog complexity — a quad Brownian accumulator that lets you sculpt smooth, stepped, and wonderfully unpredictable voltage patterns. With this module, you can make melodies wander, modulations breathe, and rhythms evolve in a way that’s alive yet under your command.
Each of the four “walkers” accumulates voltage changes step by step, clocked either internally (with a 1V/oct tracking oscillator) or from your modular system’s own network of pulses. You have 3 main parameters to control it — add a touch of "Trend" for melodic drift, a dash of "Volatility" for tasteful chaos, and some "Constrain" if you want to keep things from running off the rails. Walk 4 is as happy generating slow, drifting atmospheres as it is spitting out quantized, clocked sequences that sound like broken arpeggiators learning to groove.
In classic Joranalogue style, it’s impeccably engineered yet open-ended. The Add input applies global offsets in one move, the vari-wave LEDs make voltages visible. Walk 4 sits somewhere between a sequencer, a random generator, and a philosophical question about control — which is exactly why we love it.
Features:
- Quad analog voltage accumulator – Four independent channels that step voltage values on triggers, creating evolving staircase waveforms
- Wide-range internal clock generator – Precision clock with 1V/Oct tracking and external reset
- Four independent white noise generators – Built-in randomness sources for the Volatility parameter
- Flexible I/O per channel – Individual Value and Trigger inputs for each accumulator
Three global shaping parameters:
- Trend – Adds fixed voltage bias to all accumulators per step
- Volatility – Introduces adjustable random voltage changes
- Constrain – Limits accumulation range to prevent runaway voltages
- Add input – Global CV offset applied to all four outputs
- Reset functionality – Manual and external reset returns accumulators to zero
- Impedance-compensated outputs – Clean, buffered CV with dual-color LED visualization
- Audio and low-frequency operation – Functions as sound source or modulation generator
- Rock-solid quality, like all Joranalogue modules
- Includes: Power cable, mounting hardware, and hex key
A short note about analog accumulators:
An analog accumulator is essentially a voltage memory circuit that charges or discharges in discrete steps whenever it receives a trigger. Think of it as a capacitor with intention—each time you clock it, the stored voltage shifts by a defined amount, building up staircase-like waveforms that can wander, evolve, or snap back depending on how you shape them. Unlike digital step sequencers that recall fixed values, analog accumulators accumulate change organically, making them perfect for generating everything from smooth portamento-style glides to jittery, random-walk modulation. Walk 4 takes this concept and multiplies it by four, adding noise, constraints, and a precision clock to turn simple voltage stepping into a fully-fledged generative instrument.
