Flame Papagei — Dual CV Looper with a Mind of Its Own
The Flame Papagei is a dual-track CV looper for Eurorack that records and plays back sequences on a 16th-note grid. It runs on an external clock and loops continuously — up to 16 bars per track, with individually adjustable loop lengths.
What's unusual here is the recording method. There is no record button. Instead, the Papagei listens to whatever 1V/Oct signal arrives while the input gate is active and writes it straight onto the selected track (or both). Play over an existing loop and the new notes simply replace the old ones, step by step. Short gates between two 16th notes are automatically interpreted as retrigger steps, and a short note will cut off a longer one. It takes a moment to wrap your head around, but once you're in the flow, the whole process should feel natural — like sketching melodic ideas in real time without ever stopping the tape.
Loop lengths can be changed on the fly per track, which makes the Papagei a fun companion for jams and live sessions. To round things off, there are Reset, Clear and Mute buttons per track. The 1V/Oct range covers eight octaves and you get all of this in 6HP — a compact, clever little sequencing tool for anyone who likes their melodies looped and their workflow uninterrupted.
