Envelope Followers

Envelope followers always need an input signal from which they extract a control voltage. For example, they can generate a voltage that follows the amplitude of a guitar signal. They often come paired with an input amplifier and make it possible to create compressors, auto-panning/filter effects, and many other dynamic processes using regular VCAs and filters.
