Expert Sleepers - Forever

Forever is a dedicated audio freeze and infinite-sustain module built around the Temporal Freeze algorithm from the disting NT. A single incoming signal feeds three completely independent freeze voices, each of which can grab a moment of audio and hold it indefinitely. Each voice has its own level, gate input and three-position switch, with locking and momentary operation making it equally easy to catch sounds by hand or fire them rhythmically from elsewhere in your patch.

Once a voice is frozen, further triggers can add new layers of incoming audio to it. The Layer and Fade controls determine how quickly new material is crossfaded in and whether older material remains or is gradually replaced, so Forever can move from a clean held tone into something closer to a continually evolving drone. Detune adds yet another dimension: several playback heads can run at alternative pitches (an octave down by default) and are brought in progressively with the Detune control. Attack and release times of up to 30 seconds make slow swells especially easy to build.

It is a nicely focused spin-off from the disting NT, with the important freeze, layering and mixing controls sitting directly on the panel. Three freezes, independently triggered and layered — a simple idea, but one with plenty of depth once you start layering things up.
