Divkid - Mutes Mk2

Mutes Mk2 is a thoughtful evolution of DivKid’s practical utility module, which has remained popular since its original release in 2019. Once again developed in collaboration with Befaco, this new version retains everything that made the original great—while introducing meaningful upgrades that make it even better, more precise, and more playable.

At its core, Mutes Mk2 is a four-channel utility module for muting and routing gates, CVs, and audio—an essential tool for live performance and flexible patch control. The Mk2 features a brand-new VCA-based mute circuit, replacing the original vactrol design. The result? Improved signal integrity, greater accuracy, and the same smooth, click-free muting we all appreciated in the original. Whether you're working with rhythmic triggers, modulation sources, or audio paths, Mutes Mk2 ensures clean transitions and precise control.

Each of the four channels includes the familiar three-way mechanical switches for momentary, off, and latched-on states. These switches have been refined to maintain their satisfying tactile feel while offering increased durability—perfect for expressive live play and quick patch improvisation. To prevent audible clicking, the vactrols in the Mk2 version have been replaced by specialized VCA circuits that fade out the signal gently yet quickly. Additionally, LEDs provide visual feedback on signal presence and switch status.

Quick side note: A system is only as good as the utility modules you have available… It’s the right helper modules that truly make a system playable! So it’s no surprise that DivKid introduced Mutes—a small but mighty helper—as his very first module back in 2019.

Mutes Mk2 features four inputs and four outputs. The inputs are normalized to one another, allowing the module to also function as a (buffered) splitter or “mute multiple.” You can combine Mutes Mk2 with a mixer, feed it gates (clocks, fills, triggers), modulation signals, jump into and quickly interrupt FX feedback loops, and much more. The inputs can be muted (off), permanently activated (on), or temporarily activated (momentary) via four three-way switches. In the momentary position, the switch springs back immediately after release.

For production, DivKid has once again teamed up with Befaco. High-quality materials are used throughout: the switches feel great and are just the right size. The sum of these thoughtful details turns a simple idea into a truly excellent module.
