Befaco's RANDOM8 — 8-Channel Random Voltage Generator with Per-Channel Looping, Evolving Memory, 16-Scale Quantiser, Probability, Slew & Offset.
RANDOM8 is a new collaboration between Befaco and MylarMelodies. It packs eight channels of random voltage generation into 8HP. Feed it a clock or gate and each channel produces random voltages on every trigger — useful for pitches, modulation, or any mix of the two. The trick is that randomness doesn't have to stay random: press a channel's button and it loops what it just played, press again and that loop slowly evolves into something new, press once more to lock it in place. A double tap returns the channel to full randomness.
That makes RANDOM8 useful in two directions — as a system animator, adding subtle per-step movement so a patch keeps breathing rather than tiring the ear, and as a way to generate automatic melodies across a whole rack. A pitch quantiser with 16 scales is built in, alongside slew, offset, clock division, probability, and a selection of random styles. Firmware is updatable over USB. A splendid module for all things random :)
