Collision Devices' TARS DLX Pedal — Fuzz & Dual Analog Filter with MS-20 DNA
The TARS DLX by Collision Devices is an all-analog fuzz pedal with two resonant filters — a low-pass and a high-pass — both based on MS-20-style OTA circuits. Its fuzz circuit descends from the Singularity section of their Black Hole Symmetry pedal, with a gain range that goes from grainy low-gain distortion to full-on saturated fuzz. Both filters are switchable between 2-pole and 4-pole slopes, each with its own cutoff fader, resonance, and volume. Push the resonance far enough and they self-oscillate. A toggle lets you run fuzz and filters in series or parallel. It comes in a sleek silver enclosure, handmade in France.
There are two extra modes accessed via the Crash footswitch which add further depth here. If you tap the Crash briefly, you'll engage "BLAST", which feeds part of the fuzz circuit back into itself — producing anything from aggressive overtones to self-oscillating pitched tones. If you long-press the Crash switch, you engage the "Add Fuzz" mode, which blends an unfiltered copy of the fuzz signal alongside the filtered output. This adds some useful phasing and EQ-like effects depending on where the cutoffs sit. An expression/CV input (0–5V, TRS) controls the cutoff of either filter — good for synth setups or hands-free filter sweeps. This is a cool little fuzz unit with serious filters to sculpt the dirt into whatever shape you need!
