Befaco’s Bandit — Spectral Quad-Band Splitter
Befaco's Bandit is a spectral processing module that approaches frequency manipulation with remarkable clarity of purpose. It's a four-band frequency splitter and processor, but its thoughtful design elevates it beyond simple equalization. Each frequency band operates as its own discrete channel, complete with dedicated inputs, outputs, and voltage control.
The module's greatest strength lies in its routing flexibility, particularly in how it handles external processing. Unlike many spectral processors that keep their operations internal, the Bandit actively encourages you to patch out and explore. Each frequency band can be extracted, processed through other modules, and seamlessly reintegrated into the final mix. This level of granular control means you could, for instance, run your bass frequencies through a saturator while applying subtle phase effects to the mids - all while maintaining precise voltage control over each band's presence in the mix.
In typical Befaco fashion, the build quality is robust and the layout is clear. The center-detented faders provide a tactile reference point for your frequency adjustments, while the LED indicators keep you informed about signal levels. At 8HP, it's remarkably space-efficient for its capabilities, and the 30mm depth makes it a viable option even in shallower cases. This sort of spectral utility has far too many potential applications to list here—suffice it to say, it’s a module ready to surprise you in all the right ways.
