WMD Skorpion: 8-Stage Analog Wavefolder with Macro Animation
After five years of development, the WMD Skorpion has finally arrived. Its main functionality centers around an 8-stage analog wavefolder with a powerful vector core, but that barely scratches the surface. The interface uses eight faders with a mode switch which transforms their function. By default, the faders set your folding thresholds. Switch modes and they control target voltages or the internal animation engine. It's a direct and satisfying way to manipulate your sound with no screens or menus.
One feature which is central to this module is its macro envelope. It acts as the conductor for the module's internal modulation sources. With one gate, you can trigger a cascade of movement, making the eight threshold LFOs and four CV modulators swell, recede, and chatter in complex, interconnected ways. This turns Skorpion from a static processor into a self-animating instrument capable of making harmonics bloom like algae, or make the folds chatter like a geiger counter.
A second vector core is dedicated to the stereo output, creating a "WIDE" mid-side image that pushes high-frequency harmonic content to the sides of the stereo field while keeping the fundamental locked in the center. It’s a brilliant way to add space and dimension without reaching for another module. Add in a clever failsafe that prevents silence if your signal drops too low, and you have an incredibly deep module that approaches wavefolding in an entirely new way — very interesting to say the least!
