WMD - Kraken
- Order number: 210424
- Depth: 30
Kraken by WMD is a unique physical modeling snare drum with a huge sound palette.
With Kraken, snare drums of any color can be created and tonally tuned in all their subtleties. To do this, Kraken, similar to the WMD Crucible, uses a carefully matched "network" of classic synthesis blocks such as delay, digital filters and noise, which combine to create a unique resonator. In addition, physical properties such as shell type and size, density of the head, overtone content and sound characteristics (dense or bright) can be adjusted. Digital noise can also be used to recreate snares that resemble those from the sampler. If you want to create a more natural sound, analog noise is available to emulate the subtle nuances that a real drummer creates with each of his hits.
The optional pitch shifter on the output expands the sound palette with the characterful sound of older samplers and early pitch shifter pedals, and is controllable by CV and pitch knob. The Wreck switch provides three different distortion levels that allow for the most violent sound manipulations via hard clipping, wave folding and bit depth reduction and is also controllable via CV. Some settings of the Shell control remind of the sound of a snare mic sent through a distortion unit, while Wavefolding sounds like heavy compression with lots of high frequencies and Bit Depth Reduction opens the way to digital nirvana.
Using the head, rim, and accent gate inputs, Kraken is conveniently sequenceable, allowing you to create a basic rhythm of hits, sidesticks, rimshots, and accented sounds, for example, which is brought to life via a variable CV source connected to the velocity input. Combine with WMD's Crater, Fracture, Chimera and Crucible modules to create an inspiring, tasteful drum set for your Eurorack.
