Weston Precision Audio's SV1 Dual/Stereo VCA — Dual Channels in Dual Flavors!
The SV1 Dual/Stereo VCA follows the same clear design language as several of their previous modules - an aesthetic we’ve come to like! This VCA is not only dual in the sense that it’s stereo but It actually offers you two separate flavors of VCA’s on top of that. The first pair of VCA’s is a vintage-style discrete bipolar transistor VCA using a vintage op-amp at its output stage. By pushing this output you can add some really nice coloration and distortion to your signal. The ‘clean’ VCA pair is based on a more modern chip and uses a more modern op-amp. This is more useful in cases where you need precision with low distortion.
The SV1 offers bias control and drive functions, giving you a wide range of sound shaping options. You can use it for both stereo waveshaping and amplitude modulation. On top of that you also get a handy zero-cross detection - a lifesaver for keeping signals with fast attacks smooth and clickfree. All these features make the SV1 stand out from the crowd of ordinary vanilla VCA's, and definitely worth checking out!
Features:
- 2 flavors of VCA per channel.
- Selectable linking of all controls for stereo usage (all left controls operate L+R)
- Vintage VCA: Discrete transistors and vintage op-amps
- Clean VCA: Modern chip-based design
- Bias control: Adds CV offset from 0 to 5 volts
- CV attenuator: Adjustable up to 200% with unity at center detent.
- Input drive options: Up to 6 dB additional gain with unity at center detent
- Overdrive switch: Adds 6 dB to the input, (great for coloration)
- Zero cross detect circuit: Minimizes clicking artifacts for fast attack/decay envelopes
