The Haas Zone Processor produces short delays for spatial effects, waveshaping, and sounds you’ve never heard before. Be sure to give it a try!
The Haas Zone Processor utilizes the psychoacoustic effects of very short delays, as described by Helmut Haas as early as 1951. At its core is a digital multi-tap delay bank that provides short delays for chorus, flanging, phase cancellation, doubling, ADT, wave shaping, and other sound experiments.
Three delay taps can be individually adjusted and output as separate signals or mixed together with the dry signal in a voltage-controlled mixer. Tap 1 ranges from less than 1 ms to 20 ms, Tap 2 adds another 1–20 ms, while Tap 3 covers a range of 9–42 ms.
The delay section is complemented by a voltage-controlled bandpass filter with independently controllable frequency and bandwidth, as well as a VCO with triangle, square, and sawtooth waveforms. The oscillator ranges from extremely slow cycles up to the audio range and follows a 1 V/octave response.
Internal normalization creates a particularly flexible signal chain: The envelope follower and VCO can modulate the delay time - Tap 3 is routed into the bandpass filter, and its output into the feedback path. This allows for the targeted creation of resonances and complex sound structures.
Whether as an audio effect with unexpected possibilities or an unconventional voice, the Haas Zone Processor - even though it’s based on an old idea - brings new sounds to Eurorack.
