One of part of the holy trinity of old Roland analog X0X drum machines is the legendary TR 606. Now you get all 7 instruments of this machine – and much more – in one module - the 6m0d6.
The original 606 circuits were replicated and modified with additional parameters. The original sounded great, but the sounds were not tweakable at all – one of the main limitations of this machine. And then this happened: LPZW & Tubbutec created a monster – the 6m0d6 is based on the famous TR-606 and can indeed sound like one, but it is so much more.
Not only are the sounds tweakable now, they also added bit-crushing to the white noise source, a XOR ringmod source, made it playable via MIDI or CV/gate and more. With all the additions you can reach completely new sound territories, while still maintaining that 606 feel – but you have to add your own sequencer.
In this text we can’t talk about every parameter, but we’ll try to point out the most interesting and maybe unexpected additions. The 606 used white noise for the Snare Drum and a Metal sound for the Hihats and Cymbal. With the added XOR ringmod sound source you can now select between three sound sources for the Snare, Hihats and Cymbal! The white noise is generated digitally and can be reduced in quality for extra lofi bit-crushing instruments.
All drum sounds have editable parameters now, for example the bass drum can sound anything between a 606 bassdrum to a decayed 808 sub-bass – with added Tune, Tone, Decay and Click parameters.
Another highlight is the flexibility of the Cymbal sound. You can turn off the normal behavior with the push of a button - allowing full control of the cymbal’s volume, envelope and length. Effectively, this can turn the cymbal into a drone sound generator or even string-synthesizer. How? Well: Sending notes on MIDI channel 1 allows you to play the six metal oscillators directly. This effectively turns the oscillators – and with them the Cymbal, Hihats and Snare Drum into a paraphonic six-voice synthesizer. Metal tune and Spread still work. With Spread set to 0, all oscillators are in tune; increasing Spread will detune all oscillators.
Dynamic triggers, additional CV controls, MIDI control and individual outputs add the finishing touches to this versatile drum module that is all the 606 you’ll ever need.

Berlin-based Tobias Münzer is the mastermind behind Tubbutec, who not only provides retro-fits for vintage synths (Roland Juno-6, SH-101, etc.), but impressed with his microtonal modular multitool µTune, which among other gazillion functions is capable of reading and writing Scala .scl files.
