SOMA's Breakout Box — Companion Module for Flux That Doubles as a Standalone MIDI-to-CV Converter
SOMA's Breakout Box (or BoB, if you prefer) works both as a companion device for SOMA's FLUX touch controller and as a standalone MIDI-to-CV converter. In FLUX mode, it translates gestural input into CV and MIDI MPE — pitch and velocity for two voices, six bipolar CVs from the timbral sensors, a tilt output, and MPE with pitchbend, pressure, and CCs. The timbral outputs can run as individual channels or switch into XYZ mode, treating the surface as a three-dimensional controller.
Without FLUX, connect it to a computer and you have duophonic CV output from standard MIDI or MPE, with the ability to store custom CC mappings to memory. The unit fits in a small metal desktop enclosure or mounts into a Eurorack case at 6HP, powered entirely through USB.
SOMA's breakout box gives you a practical way to bring gestural expression to your modular system, or simply works as a handy MIDI-to-CV converter when you run it without Flux.
