Retro Mechanical Labs Never Disappoints – And the GateKeeper Is No Exception! The Perfect Companion for Your Synthesizers
The GateKeeper was born out of necessity. Some synths lack punchy envelopes! Or maybe distortion? Perhaps just a great-sounding filter? Either way, The GateKeeper unites all of that, and more, in one high-quality box to hold your synth’s hand.
The unit essentially includes the 4072 filter, a three-mode distortion, the Multa filter, and a VCA. The signal path is internally fixed to keep operation simple. However, with breakouts, this order can be bypassed and the individual modules can even be used separately.
The 4072 filter is a classic from the ARP 2600. It’s a 4-pole lowpass filter with a limited frequency range and a very warm, smooth sound. That makes it a favorite for basslines! The Multa filter is a custom-designed multimode filter based on the old Synthacon filter. In addition to low-, band-, and high-pass, it also features a self-oscillating, distorted chaos mode and a three-mode distortion. The ADSR envelope is taken from the Pro One. A very snappy envelope, perfect for arpeggios and basses! Also important are the many patch points that allow for deep control over the signal. For example, you'll find CV inputs for the filters and a gate input for the envelope.
The GateKeeper is based on a clear philosophy. It’s built to enhance your instruments, is extremely clean and high quality, but it also has the potential to get loud and dirty. A brilliant product!
