The LEQ5 Is a Lovingly Developed End-Of-Chain Equalizer by Synthesizer Pro Phase Engineering – Perfect When It Comes to Bass and Drums!
LEQ-5 is a 5-band equalizer with additional low and high shelf EQs, based on inductors. The coils are hand-wound and have a distinctive, warm sound. Many legendary filters, like the SND FB14, Moog 907, or EMS Synthi 100, used inductors because of their organic, rich tone. The five fixed frequencies (70Hz, 140Hz, 280Hz, 900Hz, and 1.8kHz) are wisely chosen to enhance the bass exactly where it hits best. The module can boost or cut these frequencies by a massive 15dB. Clean results require proper gain-staging, of course, but when you push the coils into saturation, the results are wonderfully rich. Whether you’re slowly drifting through noise in search of surprises or carefully shaping tones, the LEQ5 handles both beautifully.
Unsurprisingly, the LEQ-5 sounded great on a bassline. The bypass switch makes it instantly clear just how good it really sounds. It also worked wonderfully on multiple drum modules, adding a bit of low-end boost and some playful tweaks in the mids. Lastly, it’s a lot of fun to feed the module a (for Eurorack) very hot signal and blast it into glorious 15dB clipping heaven.
It’s also worth emphasizing the LEQ-5’s build quality. It’s solid, weighty, and clearly designed and assembled with great care and attention.
