A/D Envelope With More Than a Few Extras — Switched Slope from NIIO Analog Brings Dual Attack/Decay, Morphing Curves and Threshold Gates to Your Modular.
An envelope generator is usually a straightforward affair: it starts, it peaks, it ends. It’s the predictable story arc for your sound. But what if your envelope could have a plot twist halfway through? Switched Slope from NIIO analog tries to do just that. It is an A/D envelope with plenty of extras to create evolving movement. More specifically, it comes with dual attack times, dual decay times, dual slope shapes, and a threshold system that lets you switch between them easily.
What makes it fun is that you’re not locked into one envelope shape per cycle. The module can switch from one attack time to another, change slopes on the fly, or stretch its decay into a two-part drama: fast drop, long tail. Add in the threshold section, which outputs gates depending on where the envelope sits, and suddenly your humble envelope is triggering or modulating other parts of your system in beautifully complex ways.
And the slopes themselves? They’re not just “linear or exponential” — here you’ve got sliders that sweep smoothly from sharply exponential curves to non-exponential oddities, with plenty of musical sweet spots in between. The result is that the Switched Slope can feel as precise as a lab tool or as wobbly-organic as a hand-drawn LFO, depending on how you set it. It’s an envelope with character, range, and just enough unpredictability to keep things interesting for a while longer than your run-of-the-mill envelopes.
Features:
- Complex analog A/D envelope generator.
- Dual Attack/Decay time sections (A/D and A2/D2) that can be switched via gate inputs or an internal threshold.
- A three-position TIME switch sets the overall time range, from milliseconds to 25 seconds.
- Two independent SLOPE sliders allow for shaping the envelope curve between exponential, linear, and non-exponential shapes.
- The active SLOPE can be selected with a gate input or normalized to switch between the attack and decay stages.
- An adjustable Threshold (T/H) slider creates a switch point within the envelope's cycle.
- Four unique gate outputs that fire based on the envelope's stage (attack/decay) in relation to the T/H slider.
- CV inputs for FLOOR and CEILING, allowing you to set the minimum and maximum voltage levels of the envelope.
- Separate TRIG and GATE inputs for different triggering behaviors.
- Multiple envelope outputs including 10V, 5V, and a positive inverse version.
- A "FULL CYCLE" gate output that stays high for the entire duration of the envelope.
- Back-panel jumpers to normalize the threshold to switch the A2/D2 times by default.
