Nekyia Circuits' Sigil — Compact Analog Function Generator With Ultra Flexible Morphing Slopes, Capable of Everything From Snappy Envelopes to Cycling Modulation
Sigil is an analog function generator that packs the essentials into just 4hp. It features voltage-controlled Rise and Fall stages, a continuous Shape control that morphs slopes from exponential through linear to logarithmic, and a Cycle function that transforms the envelope into an LFO or VCO. Think of it as a compact cousin to modules like Maths or Contour 1 — not as deep, but well capable for its size.
The Shape knob affects both Rise and Fall slopes simultaneously, which has a significant impact on envelope character and, when cycling, determines your LFO waveshape. The Cycle function itself is voltage-controllable and works as a toggle — send it a trigger and it switches states. This is great for creating ratchets, wobble effects, or rhythmically gated modulation. Pair it with a clock divider and you've got yourself some nice controlled chaos :)
A jumper on the back lets you switch the input between Trigger and Slew mode, the latter turning Sigil into a slew limiter that responds to gates and audio signals. The output attenuverter covers the full -10V to +10V range, and an End of Cycle trigger output makes chaining multiple envelopes straightforward.
Sigil handles the bread-and-butter tasks well — shaping VCAs, adding portamento, modulating filters — while the cycle toggle and shape morphing add some nice extras. It's a solid, well-thought-out function generator that earns its place in compact systems.
