Nekyia Circuits' Cadence — Tripe Chain Reaction Decay Envelope
Nekyia's Cadence brings an interesting approach to envelope generation. The soul of this unit is its three analog decay envelopes. Each channel delivers sharp 1ms attacks followed by smooth exponential decays ranging from ultra-quick transients to leisurely 1.5-second fades.
If you flick through the English dictionary and stop at 'cadence', you'll find an explanation that reads:
Cadence: a sequence of notes or chords comprising the close of a musical phrase: the final cadences of the Prelude.
This meaning somewhat encapsulates the description of one of it's more unique features — it's linking system. Here, each channel's Link switch creates a bridge between one envelope's End of Decay trigger and the next envelope's trigger input, while preserving the ability to introduce voltage variations at the trigger input. This clever design opens up possibilities for complex ratcheting and rhythmic patterns. When all three envelopes are linked, Cadence transforms into a trigger sequencer, with decay times determining the duration of each step.
The trigger inputs themselves respond to voltage levels below 5V, adding velocity sensitivity that's great for dynamic control. Varying these input levels lets you create accents and natural-feeling variations in your patches. Each channel includes CV control over decay time and outputs both the envelope signal and an end-of-decay trigger.
Cadence works especially well with Low Pass Gates, where its exponential curves complement the natural response of vactrols. For percussive patches, try using shorter decay times with linked channels to generate flams and ratcheting effects. Cadence opens up a quite interesting ways to create sequences and rhythms through its channel linking feature — modulating the decay times, and adding more trigs into the equation offers even more surprises. Cadence certainly does more than first meets the eye!
Features:
- 3 snappy Decay Envelopes with exponential curves
- Fixed Attack time around 1ms & Decay time up to around 1.5 second
- Switches to link the envelopes for ratcheting effects
- Acts as Trigger or Envelope Sequencer, without the need of an external trigger
- Velocity sensitive Trigger inputs (when trigger is less than 5V)
- Manual and CV control over Decay time
- End of Decay time Trigger output per channel with LED indicator
