Holocene Electronics SIPO — Eight-Stage Digital Shift Register for Evolving Gate Patterns and Stepped CV
SIPO (Serial In, Parallel Out) is an eight-stage digital shift register that turns incoming gates and triggers into evolving rhythmic patterns. With every clock pulse, the incoming signal moves one stage forward, giving you eight outputs that reflect different moments in the sequence. Simple digital logic, but with plenty of room for rhythmic experimentation.
Feed it a gate pattern, then patch one of the eight outputs back into the Data or XOR input to create repeating sequences and more complex variations. There's also a Punch button for manually introducing new data, while Erase clears the register and starts things fresh. The built-in R-2R DAC combines the eight stages into stepped voltages, so you can use the same logic to modulate filters, oscillators or other parameters. Even audio signals can be fed into the Data input, thanks to an internal comparator. A neat little source of rhythmic and melodic surprises, with no menus or intricate programming required.
Features:
- Eight-stage digital shift register (Serial In, Parallel Out)
- Eight individual gate outputs (Q1–Q8)
- Clock input advances all eight stages on each rising edge
- Data input accepts gates, triggers and audio via internal comparator
- Additional XOR input for combining logic signals
- Feedback patching for repeating and pseudo-random patterns
- Built-in R-2R DAC for stepped CV generation
- Punch button for manually entering data
- Erase button and Reset input clear all eight stages
- Individual LED indicators for the eight output states
- Useful for rhythmic variations, gate sequencing and stepped modulation
