Hive by Vostok Instruments – Four-Channel Stereo Mixer with CV Pan and Chain Expansion
Hive is Vostok Instruments’ take on what a Eurorack mixer can be. On the surface, it’s a four-channel stereo mixer with CV-controlled panning per channel. But, it comes with its own twists, making it more than a simple summing tool.
Each of Hive’s four channels can deliver up to +9dB of gain boost, which means it not only balances levels between modules but also lets you patch in line-level devices – desktop synths, drum machines, even effects pedals – and bring them right into the modular fold.
Hive also gives special attention to panning. Rather than a plain linear curve, it uses a custom law (-1.5dB at center) to keep movements across the stereo field balanced and musical.
The rear panel holds another ace – chaining ports. Multiple Hive units can be linked together as channel expanders or sub-mixers, creating an expandable system that grows with your rack. Think of Hive as both a final output stage and a modular building block for bigger mixes.
All of this is wrapped up in 10HP, with clear visual feedback via LED indicators and a master section to keep levels under control. Use it as a stereo mangler for FX returns, a submixer for voices, or a smart end-of-chain mixer — if you’re looking for a new mixer, this is rack real estate well spent.
