The Dynamics 2806 houses both a compressor and expander in one 500-series unit, sharing a single VCA. The compressor watches the VCA output while the expander monitors the input—this difference in perspective creates the module's character. Both circuits work simultaneously by default, generating complex dynamic behaviors that separate units can't achieve.
The Priority button prevents interference when your thresholds sit close together, making the expander wait until compression finishes. External sidechain routing lets you trigger either circuit with different signals, while the Listen function reveals what's happening inside the sidechain filters. Flip the reference switch and the compressor becomes more like a limiter; engage Classic mode for slower, vintage-style pumping.
