Threetom Modular - Steve's MS-22
- Order number: 240310
- Depth: 45
Don't be fooled by its unassuming appearance! Steve's MS-22 is a top-notch Eurorack filter from Three Tom Modular.
This module is the result of a very fruitful collaboration between two musicians and nerds: Tom Verschooten and Steve O'Hear.
Steve's MS-22 is a filter whose sound is based on the filter section of the Korg MS-20, but is considerably more advanced. The module consists of two serially connected filters, each of which has its own frequency parameter and a common resonance pot. Unlike the original, here the low-pass filter goes into the high-pass filter. The sound is dirty and full of character, just as we know and love it from the original. The gain stage between the filters is also great, tickling a lot more power out of your sounds. There really is a lot more here than the exterior suggests. And by the way, the self-oscillation is not bad either and has a few surprises in store thanks to the two competing filters.
However, MS-22 is more than just a clone. The manufacturer has really put some thought into it and included a few more tricks. For example, the two filters can be connected and their frequency can be controlled by a common pot. The result is a bandpass with variable width and a unique sound. Naturally the CV inputs also have more to offer than you might expect. The ACV (Aux-CV) input can be routed to the individual destinations via individual switches. No menu and no button combination, just a switch that sends the modulation to the parameter positively, negatively or not at all.
All in all, a great filter module that fills that little space in your rack immensely well!
Features:
- Dual VCF modeled on the Korg MS-20 OTA filter
- Low-pass (12dB) in high-pass (6dB) configuration
- Modulation matrix allows CV control over all parameters
- Cutoff frequencies can be linked, resulting in a bandpass filter with controllable bandwidth
- Bipolar LEDs for visualizing the CV signals LP, HP, resonance and gain
