Serge Modular - Variable Bandwidth Filter (VCF2)
- Order number: 210588
The Serge Variable Bandwidth Filter (VCF2) is a pretty special combination of two filters. And it might be the rarest filter from the original Serge System.
The VCF2 features two state-variable VCF's that are connected in series. The module offers five different outputs: High pass, low pass, two fixed bandwidth outputs, and one variable bandwidth output. What is special about this design, is that it doesn’t have any resonance control. The outputs are all flat-response (no resonance) so the VCF2 is able to process concrete sounds without introducing resonant coloration to the timbres. What first seems like a flaw quickly becomes the foundation of new ideas. While working with the VCF2 you are forced to think differently about filters and find new ways of introducing this concept into your sound design. And while not having any resonance control, it is still a versatile module. The cut-off frequency of the high and low-pass outputs are CV-controllable, as well as the center frequency of the two band-pass outputs. Both center frequency and bandwidth can be controlled independently on the variable bandwidth output. A switch determines if the CV-controls are routed to the first (left), second (right) or both filters.
The Random*Source Serge VCF2 module is an original Serge design, under license and in cooperation with Serge Tcherepnin.

Variable Bandwidth Filter @Random*Source
Serge Modular has always been devoted to preserving the legacy of Modular synthesizers, while expanding and modernizing it at the same time. With Random Source they also keep the innovative spirit of the late Jürgen Haible alive.
