Raw Jaw Media Pseudos — Generative Melody Engine Combining Turing Machine Sequences With a Built-in Oscillator
Pseudos is a random CV generator based on the Turing Machine concept and also comes with its own oscillator, making it both a modulation source and a standalone melodic voice. The built-in oscillator tracks the Turing sequence, shifting between sine, square, saw, and triangle waveforms as it moves through random pitch patterns.
There are two types of randomness that work in tandem here. The main pitch output follows a Turing Machine sequence with user-defined length (from 2 to 64 steps, or combinations thereof for oddball lengths like 5 or 11). A second CV output operates at a macro level, updating at multiples of the main sequence length — so you get fast evolving melodies alongside slower, broader modulation curves.
Seven chord mode buttons let you quantize sequences to specific harmonic flavors — from stable, consonant intervals to more tense, dissonant ones — with the quantizer's key adjustable across all twelve chromatic positions. Glide adds movement between notes with adjustable time, amplitude, and probability. The skip function works similarly, creating rhythmic rests based on probability settings. Both help transform raw sequences into moving musical phrases.
The Infinity button unlocks the Turing sequence for continuous evolution. Feed it a gate signal while unlocked, and even the sequence length becomes random. There's also a shift button which extends most controls, revealing macro functions like clock division, key selection, and glide parameters.
Pseudos works equally well as a melodic voice or complex modulation source. The unquantized CV output provides smooth random voltages for whatever needs movement in your system, while the quantized pitch output and oscillator deliver instantly playable melodies that evolve without input. In case you're tired of your static sequences, Pseudos is a great choice for controlled and wonderful chaos!
