Nekyia Circuits' Sosumi — Dual Low Pass Gate with Character
Drawing inspiration from the Buchla 292, Sosumi brings together two vactrol-based low pass gates in a single module. Each channel combines amplitude and frequency control through handmade vactrols, lending the module its distinctive organic character. These carefully crafted components ensure that every Sosumi develops its own subtle sonic personality.
The module particularly shines when processing harmonically rich material. Feed it short envelope signals and Sosumi shapes the sound into natural percussive voices with satisfying decay curves. The dedicated ping inputs add another layer of expression - really nice for adding accents or creating dynamic variations in your patches.
One of Sosumi's interesting quirks lies in its voltage handling - while designed for standard 10V operation, it responds nicely to 5V signals too, albeit with a slightly different decay shape. In sequencing setups, the ping input can double as an accent parameter, useful for adding motion and to breathe some life into your rhythmic sequences.
Each handcrafted vactrol brings subtle variations in response times, thereby also making every Sosumi module [slightly] unique. Naturally, it still maintains the core qualities that make it excel at crafting organic, plucky sounds. If all this vactrol-magic sounds intriguing to you, Sosumi offers a path to distinctly wonderful musical results.
