Nekyia Circuits' Muzzle — Vactrol-based LP Filter tailored for all things percussive.
Nekyia Circuits' Muzzle is a 12dB lowpass filter built around handmade vactrols. It comes with both a filter and a gate function that's got an organic, analog response — a la vactrol.
The sound can move from clean filtering to an acidic resonance that can veer into self-oscillation. Its ping input interacts with the resonance circuit, adding controlled saturation which is tracked by a white LED. For cleaner articulation, triggers routed to the CV input deliver pure, unsaturated pings.
Feed it short envelopes and Muzzle can respond with "natural sounding" percussion sounds - think in the range of bongos to kicks to zaps and back. When in self-oscillation (resonance at full throttle), the trigger level can be used to further shape the sound: high levels create zappy tones while lower settings yield thumpy, kick-like sounds. The CV attenuator's wide range makes it possible to dial in the precise flavour you're after. You can use the ping input as an accent for dynamic timbral shifts to create interesting tonal and rhythmic variations. For its size and seemly sparse set of controls, Muzzle can deliver a whole host of interesting percussive sounds.
Features:
- 12dB/octave lowpass filter and gate
- Resonance control that makes the filter self-oscillate past mid position.
- Ping input for striking the filter frequency and resonance and creating extra grit.
- Frequency control with CV input and attenuator.
- Visual feedback LED
- Handmade vactrol-based design
