Chaos by Clank — Six-Channel Aleatoric Sequencing Module With the Ability to Create Order From Chaos
Chaos is a sophisticated six-channel aleatoric brain that transforms random voltage and gate streams into musical patterns through progressive refinement. Unlike traditional sequencers that start with a blank slate, Chaos begins with complete randomness and offers powerful tools to sculpt it into usable musical material. Think of it as chiselling the raw form of a rock into a defined shape. Each channel provides independent control over probability, width, timing, and voltage parameters, allowing for complex yet manageable randomization.
The module operates across three conceptual layers of control. First, the tunable random generator creates initial patterns. Then, the loop function captures promising sections and applies global modifications. Finally, the edit mode enables precise per-step adjustments, transforming chaotic elements into deterministic sequences. This workflow motivates discovery while maintaining musical coherence — in other words, a nice balance between unpredictability and control.
The interface features dedicated outputs for each channel, a central encoder for navigation, and five modifier buttons that provide immediate access to all parameters without menu diving. The three buttons below the main encoder let you access global settings for input assign, scale quantization/slewing and memory access. You also get immediate visual feedback via LED indicators to get a better idea of what's going on at any one moment. Its "Chaos" function can randomize all parameters of any channel individually or in groups, with adjustable entropy to control how far from your original settings the randomization can go.
Beyond its random capabilities, Chaos excels as a central timing hub with external synchronization options, gate probability control, swing functions, voltage quantization, and a robust instant save/recall system across 60 slots. Self-patching from outputs to inputs creates self-evolving systems with controlled entropy, while the sequencer mode transforms captured loops into precisely edited patterns.
Where typical random generators deliver only chance, Chaos offers structured evolution—the ability to shape possibility according to musical intent, turning randomness into compositional material through deliberate constraints and transformations. This is a highly interesting module that offers next-level random - recommended!
