The UDO Super 8 bridges the gap between the Super 6 and Super Gemini, offering 16-voice polyphony + multi-timbral capabilities in a more portable form factor.
UDO is back with another entry in the Super-series. This version is for anyone who wants the bi-timbrality of the Gemini but in a smaller form-factor.
What’s different this time around? Sound-wise, this synth offers the same sound architecture as the bigger Super Gemini and the binaural mode that the series has become known for. In short, that means a hybrid instrument with high-resolution, FPGA-based digital oscillators and two analogue filters (a 4-pole 24dB/oct low-pass and a 1-pole 6dB/oct high pass) + a bunch of other goodies.
However, the extra controls for the second layer and the ribbon controller found on its bigger brother are now gone. Instead, you control the second layer with the same controls as you use for the first layer. This model now also sports some nice looking Juper-8ish vents at the top of the unit for that retro flair.
Just like the other Super-series instruments, the Super 8 doubles its voice count to 16 when you turn off binaural mode. Patches can be shared between the Gemini and the Super 8. This isn't possible with the Super 6.
We’ve already written in length about UDO’s Super-synths before. If you want to know more about how they work, check out our articles about the Super 6 and the Super Gemini. The Super 8 is 100% as powerful as the Super Gemini sound-wise, but in a much more portable form – perfect for gigs!
