Toppobrillo's Matrixplexer — Ultra-Flexible 4x4 Scanning Matrix Mixer with Axis-Independent Animation Modes. A Routing Playground With Pretty Endless Patch Potential!
The Toppobrillo Matrixplexer is a 4x4 matrix mixer with built-in scanning. Matrix mixers on their own are already endlessly useful — any input can be routed to any output, at any level, for complex feedback, signal distribution, and creative CV routing. Scanning mixers are a different kind of useful — they let you move between sources over time, typically with CV. Combine the two in a single module and the possibilities quickly become hard to count: mix movement, spatialization, sequenced routings, syncopated rhythms, evolving feedback networks, clocked swells and pans.
The Matrixplexer offers four DC-coupled inputs and four output mixes with mute switches, plus X and Y axes that actively sweep through the cross-points. Each axis has three scan modes — Scan (exclusive, position-mapped selection), Stack (all channels in a row or column opening consecutively) and Scroll (internal through-zero LFOs sweeping the matrix continuously in any direction). The Shape control sets the crossfade curve between channels, from hard switching to linear blends. The two axes operate independently, so a clocked scroll can run on X while Y sits static, or both can scroll at different rates. A Clock input locks scanning to external timing, separate Row and Mix CVs gate individual channels on top of the main X/Y scan, and low-noise linear VCAs handle the signal path throughout. A rear header is included for future digital expansion.
