Tiptop Audio Resonator — Three Parallel Voltage-Controlled Filters Based on the Resonator Section of the 1975 Polymoog, Fully Analog!
Resonator by Tiptop Audio is a three-band analog filter module modeled after the resonator section of the Polymoog synthesizer from 1975. Three filters run in parallel — each with its own gain, emphasis (feedback), frequency knob, and a switch to select between highpass, bandpass, and lowpass modes. Their outputs are mixed together and sent to a single output. Set them up in the classic Polymoog configuration (HP top, BP middle, LP bottom), patch a slow modulation source to all three frequency CV inputs, and you're immediately in that lush, phasing, vowel-like character that the original was known for (...looking at you, Vox Humana preset).
Five gain stages sit between input and output, which matters here because resonators can clip quickly when emphasis is cranked. Having level control at each stage lets you push the filters hard without losing control of the signal. Everything is strictly analog — no digital circuitry, no LEDs, just a beautiful clean signal path. A bypass switch lets you A/B the effect without repatching. Originally designed by Tiptop as an end-of-chain processor for their polyphonic modules, it sounds equally good on pads, drums, and full mixes.
A faithful take on a really distinctive filter design, Tiptop's Resonator does what the Polymoog resonator section did, fits in 16HP, and costs a fraction!
Features:
- Three parallel voltage-controlled resonant filters
- Selectable filter type per band (highpass / bandpass / lowpass)
- Individual gain, emphasis (feedback), and frequency controls per filter
- CV input per frequency band (0–5V), knob acts as offset
- Five gain stages for flexible level management across the signal path
- Bypass switch for wet/dry comparison
- Fully analog signal path
- Audio input: 10Vpp
