Solid State Logic - SSL 12

The SSL 12 packs rackmount-level functionality into a bus-powered USB-C interface. Four SSL-designed mic preamps, each with dedicated high-pass filtering, 48V phantom power, and the Legacy 4K circuit for adding that SSL characteristic presence and bite. The preamps offer 62dB of gain with exceptionally low noise — enough headroom for ribbon mics, quiet sources, and everything in between. Full +24 dBu operating levels on the balanced I/O mean it integrates properly with your outboard gear.

Where the SSL 12 really earns its name is expandability. An ADAT input adds up to eight more channels of digital audio, turning this portable interface into a genuine multi-track recording solution. The SSL 360° software provides a console-style mixer for building up to four independent near-zero latency headphone mixes — proper cue mixing without external hardware. A built-in talkback mic routes to any of the headphone or line outputs, which is the kind of detail that matters during real sessions. Two independent headphone outputs can also be repurposed as additional balanced line outs if needed.

Four balanced outputs handle monitoring duties, and all are DC-coupled for sending CV to Eurorack gear or other compatible hardware. 5-pin DIN MIDI I/O, stereo loopback, and three user-assignable front panel buttons round out the feature set. The 32-bit/192kHz converters deliver over 120dB of dynamic range on the monitor outputs — numbers that belong in a rackmount unit, not a portable interface. Think of it as the big sibling to the SSL 2 and 2+ MKII, for those who need more inputs, more routing, and more session flexibility.
