P4L Modular Pikocoreuro — Lo-Fi Sample Mangler with Beat-Synced Effects, Sequencer and Clock I/O
Pikocoreuro brings Infinite Digits' Pikocore sample mangler into Eurorack, turning stored samples into chopped-up rhythms, glitchy breaks and unpredictable patterns. Built around a Raspberry Pi Pico, it works with gritty 8-bit/33 kHz mono audio, with up to eight minutes of sample storage. Samples are automatically divided into eight sections, which you can retrigger and rearrange using the large tactile buttons. Four knobs handle sample selection, effect parameters, filtering and volume. The whole thing lends itself nicely to rapid-fire breakbeat cut-ups and classic breakcore-style experimentation.
There's quite a bit of controlled chaos going on here. Beat-synced effects include stuttering, gating and retriggering, while probability controls introduce random jumps, reversals and the possibility to switch between different samples. There's also a resonant filter, lo-fi time-stretching and wavefolding for yet more sound-shaping options. You can record patterns with the built-in 128-step sequencer, synchronise everything with the rest of your rack via clock input and output, and load your own samples over USB-C. A great little machine for wreaking a bit of havoc on otherwise orderly rhythms!
