Tellus from Oaka Instruments gives you access to sounds you'd normally never hear. This contact microphone picks up vibrations directly from surfaces rather than airborne sound, revealing a hidden sonic universe that exists all around us.
Tellus uses a carefully designed piezo element paired with a built-in preamp. Together, they capture vibrations with impressive sensitivity - the subtle creaks of furniture, the internal resonances of instruments, or the organic movements within natural materials.
This "weatherised" model of Tellus handles outdoor recording in wet conditions, perfect for capturing trees, soil, and natural elements. Do note that the microphone can is water resistant but is not designed to be fully submerged in water.
It requires phantom power (24-48v) and connects via standard XLR. Hand-built in Dorset, UK, this mic is a focused tool for exploring the hidden world around you, opening up new possibilities for field recording and sound design that conventional microphones can't access.
