Oaka Instruments' Tellus is a highly sensitive contact microphone. The Miniature version earns its name with a neat trick: the active circuitry lives inside the XLR connector itself, leaving just a thin, light brass element to fix to a surface. That makes it easy to attach to acoustic instruments, found objects and small things whose inner life you'd never catch with an ordinary mic.
It runs on standard 24–48V phantom power thanks to that built-in preamp, covers roughly 20Hz to 20kHz, and arrives on a 2m lead. One thing to keep in mind: the Miniature element isn't weatherised, so it's happiest indoors and on dry surfaces. If you're aiming to venture into harsher conditions — trees, soil and rainy fieldwork — the Weatherised Tellus is the one to reach for.
Tellus Miniature offers you a great, lively way to amplify the unheard. Clip it to a guitar, a spring or a fence, and run it into a recorder or, via Oaka's Stereo Pre, straight into a modular system or line-level device.
