Neumann - MA 1

The MA 1 is Neumann's room calibration system for their network-enabled KH line monitors. It consists of an individually calibrated measurement microphone and companion software (Mac/PC). The software guides you through a measurement process — no acoustics expertise required — then calculates correction curves based on a room-adaptive target response. The correction data is stored directly in the monitors' DSP, so there's no plugin or special audio driver involved. Once aligned, you can disconnect the network cables and the calibration stays put.

Compatible monitors include the KH 80 DSP, KH 120 II, KH 150, and the KH 750 DSP / KH 805 II subwoofers. If you're running older analog KH monitors (like the KH 310 or KH 420), you can still use MA 1 by routing them through a network-enabled subwoofer — the sub's DSP handles calibration for the whole system, including phase linearization for the connected speakers.

The measurement mic is omnidirectional with a 20Hz–20kHz range and comes with its own calibration file for ±0.5dB accuracy. It runs on standard 48V phantom power via any audio interface with a balanced mic input. The software corrects frequency response, time of arrival, and level matching between speakers. When using bass management, MA 1 also ensures proper phase alignment between sub and satellites so they sum correctly.

For stereo setups the base software is included free. Multichannel Extension is available as a paid license for surround and immersive configurations.
