OXI ONE MKII — Double the Sequencers, New Performance Tools and Faster Workflow.
OXI Instruments has taken their already capable step sequencer and significantly expanded its capabilities with the new MKII version. What immediately catches the eye is the larger OLED display and the addition of eight numerical buttons identifying each of the sequencers - double the standalone sequencers of its predecessor.
The OXI ONE MKII maintains the sleek form factor of the original while also packing much more functionality under the hood. The eight sequencers now offer up to 64 tracks total, creating a substantial canvas for complex pattern creation. Each sequencer comes equipped with its own dedicated modulation lane and two LFOs, giving you powerful control over parameter changes throughout your sequences.
Where the former track selection buttons of the MK I were, you now have a new row of buttons for different sequencing scenarios — Live performance is now enhanced with a new Performance Mode [PERF]. Combined with the other new Accumulator, Groove and Repeat engines, the sequencer offers some nice possibilities for spontaneous creativity. The addition of [FLOW] provides yet an additional layer specifically meant for performance situations.
For those leaning more into the compositional side of things, the MKII brings several useful tools to the table. The Chord Tools and Custom Scales features help with harmonic development, and the Extended Generative Tools are there to aid with algorithmic duties. These tools, coupled with the improved Arranger Mode, make it possible to build complete tracks right from the hardware, neat!
Project management has also been improved. The internal memory now stores up to 20 complete projects, while the new SD card slot allows for practically infinite storage of projects, custom grooves, and scales. This makes the MKII much more viable as a centerpiece of a musical setup.
The interface philosophy remains the same - a grid-based layout focused on quick, hands-on operation. Through the addition of new buttons, the workflow feels more streamlined and grants you faster access to important features. The expanded connectivity options (with up to 6 MIDI ports and a whopping 96 MIDI channels when using the OXI Split V2 expander) make this a remarkably flexible sequencer.
