Ginkosynthese Sampleslicer MKIII — Stereo Real-Time Sampler & 16-Slice Performance Sequencer
Ginkosynthese's Sampleslicer is back in its 3rd iteration, and it's still doing what made the original such a sought-after module: transforming incoming audio into instantly playable material. This is a real-time stereo sampler that chops sound into 16 slices on the fly, spreading them across its internal sequencer. Recording time is determined by a clock divider ranging from /4 to x4, meaning you can stretch one recording across 64 clock pulses or cram it into just 4. This same divider becomes your speed control after recording, creating everything from classic time-stretched sounds to hyper-glitchy fragments.
The MK3 brings several essential updates — stereo operation replaces the mono path of earlier versions, and an SD card slot lets you save and load samples across 16 banks. New mode buttons give direct access to features like REC SYNC for clock-quantized recording starts, PUNCH IN for rewriting individual slices, and MONITOR for mixing incoming audio with playback. The STYLE button switches between clean playback and an old-school time-stretching algorithm that adds ring-mod character when you push the tempo. There's also a reverse function, because why wouldn't there be one?
The workflow stays as immediate as it's always been: each of the 16 sequencer steps corresponds to one slice, ready to be reordered, gated, and modulated. You set start points and play lengths via knobs or CV, flip between one-shot hits and looping patterns, and use the pitch ranges (including 1V/oct) to treat the buffer as a playable voice. It will chop your breaks, rework any external gear you run through it, or stretch your sources into smeared textures. The Sampleslicer MKIII keeps sampling ultra-fast, tactile, and just unpredictable enough to stay inspiring. It was hard to come by for a while, now it's back!
