Frequency Central Berlin School — A Straightforward Knob-Per-Step Sequencer for Short, Ever-Shifting Lines. Clock Division, Transpose, Quantised Output.
Berlin School is a simple, hands-on step sequencer: one knob per step, set your notes, hit play, and tweak as it runs. It's built on the classic CD4017 Johnson counter — a decade counter chip found in loads of DIY sequencers — with a small microcontroller added for a few extra tricks. The name nods to the 1970s West Berlin sound of Tangerine Dream and Klaus Schulze: short, looping, slowly shifting sequences.
The basics are well covered. Clock division lets the sequence run at different speeds against your clock, the output is quantised so every note stays in tune while you tweak, and you can transpose by hand or CV. Set how long each step lasts, from one clock up to eight, and run the whole thing as a 4, 6 or 8-step sequence across five octaves.
Very nice as a no-fuss sequencer that's quick to use and handy to have around.
