Versatile analog FM drum module kit from mki x es.EDU - learn to build metallic percussion sounds with educational step-by-step guide
Erica Synths and Moritz Klein have developed a series of educational DIY kits under the brand name mki x es.EDU with one specific goal in mind: to teach people with little-to-no prior experience how to design analog synthesizer circuits from scratch. What you'll find in the box is not simply meant to be soldered together and then disappear in your rack. Instead, they want to take you through the circuit design process step by step, explaining every choice they've made and how it impacts the finished module.
The EDU DIY FM Drum kit teaches you how to build a powerful analog drum synthesizer that combines the punch of analog circuits with the metallic tones of FM synthesis. This versatile percussion module features two oscillators with large CV-controllable tuning knobs, switchable sine and pulse waveforms, and frequency modulation capabilities. The adjustable decay envelope can be routed to the tune parameter to shape the sound further. A helpful reference chart on the faceplate shows which switch combinations produce different sounds - from classic kicks and toms with FM off, to metallic bell and gong sounds with FM engaged.
Please note: The do-it-yourself kit includes all the parts necessary to build this module. This is a beginner's kit; you need very little prior experience and basic hand tools (small screwdriver, soldering iron, etc.). We cannot assist with assembling/soldering the kit and take no responsibility if the kit does not work after self-assembly.
Features:
- Two oscillators with CV-controllable tuning
- Switchable sine/pulse waveforms per oscillator
- FM on/off switch with tune depth control
- Adjustable decay envelope with tune routing
- Multiple CV inputs: trigger, accent, tune CV, decay CV
- Sound reference chart for different switch combinations
- Wide range of sounds from kicks to metallic percussion
