The Boredbrain Xcelon is an analog 6-channel mixer for Eurorack with an impressive amount of functions.
Whether studio or stage, the Xcelon is a real workhorse if you want your mixing dreams to come true in your modular world.
The six channels can be operated either in stereo or dual mono mode and all have gain control (up to +15dB input amplification) with LED peak display, two send knobs for FX1 and FX2, as well as a balance control for channel panning.
Pressing the XFADE switch next to the channel fader switches the operating mode to dual mono and transforms the panning control into a crossfader between the two mono channels. This allows, for example, several signals that do not require panning (bass drum; snare drum, several basses) to be combined within one channel. The intensity volume of the respective channel is conveniently displayed by the intensity of the LED brightness on the fader and supplemented by a 5-stage VU meter for volume and dynamics, which can be switched from post to pre-fader mode using a jumper. The mute button allows click-free switching on and off of the channel signal, the A/B switch routes the signal to one of the two busses, in the middle position it is routed to both.
On the left-hand side of the user interface you will find extensive audio and CV options for each channel. Inputs 1 and 2 accept either a stereo signal or a (dual) mono signal at line or Eurorack level. If only the left input is patched, the signal is also "copied" to the right input. Below this, there are four CV inputs per channel for volume (VOL), panning (BAL) and FX 1/2, which offer a range of 0 to +5V or -5 to +5 (BAL). A jumper on the back switches the VOL-CV input from volume modulation to VCA mode (attenuation of the CV input by the fader). In live situations, an envelope can be looped into the CV input and the volume can still be set "normally".
On the right-hand side of the Eurorack module there are two stereo output pairs (A/B), as well as the two stereo FX, each with two send pairs (FX SND 1/2) and two return pairs (FX RTN 1/2). Their level and routing (bus A/B or both) can be set at the bottom right-hand edge either via the two RTN 1/2 controls or via the CV inputs above them (0 to +5V). The effect returns can also be used as additional stereo inputs; FX SND 1 can also be switched from post to prefader mode using a jumper.
Features:
